I was hesitant to buy the Premium Crest Whitestrips after reading the only Epinions review that was available at the time. However, after much thinking, I decided, what do I have to lose?! I am almost done using my seven day whitening kit and I think it’s just wonderful!!! I have a veneer as a result of a chipped tooth. Crest very clearly states the strips will not change dental work like that (veneers, caps, crowns, fillings or dentures) but I would swear my veneer appears better as well!

To get down to the nitty gritty here…when I read the very simple “3 steps to a beautiful, whiter smile” I was so skeptical not to mention wondering if the steps they gave were really that simple…guess what, they were! There are a total of 28 strips per box. I followed the directions and used the strips when my teeth weren’t freshly brushed. I have been doing the upper and lower teeth at the same time. The pouches (and directions) are clearly described in English and Spanish if it’s for the upper or lower set of teeth. There is a slight notch in the aluminum pouch you tear to open each pouch. Once you have the pouch open, the Crest Whitestrip will look honestly like a bandaid. There are directions on how to separate the lower and upper strips from the backing but essentially, in both cases, there is a notch you pull on that allows you to grasp the actual whitening strip. If you get the gel on your fingers, your skin will get temporarily grayish-white if you don’t wash it off. Like I said, it’s temporary…it will last at the most an hour…and it’s not very noticeable.

I found separating the strip from the backing easy. I was more nervous about it than I needed to be. The directions were very indicative of what I experienced. The artwork comes in making sure you are positioning the strip centered on your teeth and covering the full area of the tooth but not putting the strip too much on the gum (it doesn’t do anything to the gum but you want to make sure you cover the full tooth or you only whiten the area you have made contact with). Once you have centered the strip, slightly press down on the strip to make sure it’s touching the surface of your teeth. Anything left over from the surface of the strip can be folded over to the back side of the tooth. The strips stuck well to my teeth and I did not taste anything bad from the gel (they have a mild minty taste from the little bit I tasted)…I did notice a bit of a “burning” from the peroxide on my tongue but it was barely anything…less than a pinch on the arm. It was more like eating something a tiny bit spicy…and you only taste it/experience it if you mess with the strips while they are working.

The strip needs to stay in place for 30 minutes. It is recommended you do not eat, smoke, sleep or drink during this time. After the 30 minutes is up, I usually rinse my mouth with water because I was worried about the taste of the gel after reading the first review written for the strips. Once I rinse, I brush my teeth and that is that. I can honestly say I can see a difference after each time I use the strips. It’s amazing!

Some additional things to note per the instruction packet included..you can do treatments back to back for a total of 60 minutes of treatment time. Your teeth may experience some temporary sensitivity. Mine did. It was a little uncomfortable- but not unbearable! I took a one day break and the discomfort went away completely. Another thing to note is that if you do not get the desired whitening effect you can do another treatment pack immediately after you finish the first one. One last thing I should mention is that the strips only whiten the teeth in the front whereas the trays a dentist will make for you will whiten all of your teeth. But who really cares about the back teeth? I honestly think the Premium Crest Whitestrips were a worthwhile investment. My dentist did say that the older you are, the less effective they are but if they have a money back guarantee, what does one have to lose by trying?! They have worked great for me so far! I have 2 more days to go. The treatment process is that you put the strips on twice a day each day. So I have a total of 4 more strips to put on. I would highly recommend them- and well have been!!
