I have always wanted white teeth since the day I learned to brush them in kindergarten while using those little pills you dissolved that showed you which teeth need more brushing!

Not really a smoker or a coffee drinker, my teeth just aren’t white - probably due to only brushing them lately once a day - yeah bad me!

I have tried the whitening toothpastes - Crest, Rembrandt, Arm & Hammer - but none really get my teeth white - or even make a noticeable change.

After a year of consideration, I asked my dentist about the laser whitening procedure and other alternatives. He recommended trying out the Whitestrips from Crest first - not sure why he would push a $29 product rather than making some $500 off me in a laser whitening procedure - but I guess if it worked, I’d save $470.

The search for Crest Whitestrips Premium!

I went to CVS here in Alexandria, VA and saw them selling for $34.99. I remember going to Target and seeing them there for $28.99 (sale price with promotion). And back in Texas, they were selling for $26.99.

Basically, you will find Crest Whitestrips in the dental hygeine section of your supermarket, drugstore, or fine places like Walmart, Target, KMart, etc.

Do some comparison shopping to get the best deal on these. Although 28.99 seems like a bargain compared to spending $500 (even the other alternative to laser whitening is using bleaching trays, which the dentist quoted as $300 and taking a few weeks to do.), there is a variation in price on this product and since there is a big push for “consumer awareness”, Crest is doing a lot of marketing and cross promoting with this product that you are bound to find it on sale.

For $28.99 at Target, I got the Crest Whitestrips Premium with a special packaged promotion that included:

The whitestrips come in a bluish hard plastic compact case - as big as a compact disc case holder that holds 10-12 CDs. Inside the case, you find instructions, 28 strips (14 for your top teeth and 14 for your lower teeth) and a surprise MIRROR!

With regards to the strips, they are individually marked for UPPER and LOWER teeth as each strip is made differently for each section. When you get the out of their individual packet, they are a thin piece of clear looking film that resemble huge bandaids. Upon closer look, they are shaped and perforated so that you can peel them off (sometimes this is hard to do if you don’t have dry fingertips and/or hands) and apply to your teeth.

How to use Crest Premium Whitestrips:

You can basically use the strips anytime and anyplace. It is recommended you do 2 treatments per day for 7 days in a row.

So if it is first thing in the morning, after or during a quick 30 minute yoga workout, while cooking, taking a short nap, or even taking a bath, or even while at work….you can apply your strips on and go about your routine.

1. Make sure your hands are clean and very dry.

2. Open up upper teeth strip packet and pull out the strip. You will then peel off a specially sized strip that is shaped for your front upper teeth. Place on the front of your teeth first and fold the remaining strip onto the backside of your front teeth

3. Repeat with lower teeth strip packet.

4. Leave on teeth for at least 30 minutes. Once in place, they will stick easily on your enamel. Try to avoid covering your gums with them.

5. Discard strips by peeling off from teeth and dispose in trash.

Do this twice a day and you are on your way to white teeth in 7 days!

Some things to note when using this product:

* Teeth sensitivity can occur. On my first application, I encountered a painful sensation in my lower teeth gum line area that made me realize this may not be pain free but it never came back after. (PS. I didn’t experience a lot of teeth sensitivity with the product compared to when I used the Rembrandt whitening tooth paste - that made my teeth/gum line super sensitive.)

* Don’t use after whitestrips right after brushing your teeth. I think this may increase your chances of experiencing tooth sensitivity.

* If your hands are not dry, you may get activated ingredients on your fingertips, which may cause irritation. ie, gel that comes into contact with the skin can cause temporary irritation and/or whitening. Wash hands with soap and water after applying strips.

* You can do your strips treatments back to back. So do one set in 30 minutes followed by another set for 30 minutes and get it over with in one hour.

* Avoid contact of gel with cloth, leather or fabric.

* If you have dental work, Crest Whitestrips will only whiten natural teeth - not caps, crowns, veneers, fillings or dentures.

Do Crest Whitestrips Premium work?

Yes. I visibly was able to see an improvement by day 3 and by day 4 my teeth looked whiter than I ever remember having them!

I unfortunately didn’t finish all 7 days as I went on a trip and forgot to take them with me.

It is important to continue to floss and brush your teeth while doing the program. Not only will you fight cavities, but you will prolong how white your teeth will remain. It is recommended to use a whitening toothpaste such as the Crest Whitening brand (I tend to use that and Arm&Hammer for the baking soda effect and alternate daily usage).

When I first used them, I did get some gel on my fingers from the strip because my fingers were a bit moist. The tip of the finger turned white and I did feel a slight burn. So you can imagine how powerful this stuff is and why it works on your teeth.

Peeling the strips out of the packet and from the big strip itself takes a while to get use to. Not always easy - especially for the lower section of your teeth since it is a smaller strip than the upper section. Each packet is labeled for UPPER and LOWER so keep that in mind and you will have 14 sets.

I am so glad I tried the Crest Whitestrips Premium. I definitely have a $250 smile since the strips don’t really whiten all your teeth - the strips only are big enough to cover your front teeth, which are the ones everyone will notice anyway. But if you are like me, you know the back teeth aren’t white and well, it would be nice if all my teeth were white.

I guess you may have to buy two more boxes of Crest Whitestrips to get back teeth white too - I just imagine it would be a bit more challenging and time consuming as well to get the full $500 smile.
